Are rabbits a lot of work?

Like any pet, they require love, food, shelter; all the things that people need. There are a few things that rabbits will need each day. Every day you'll need to clean and fill his water bottle. He'll need fresh food, and soiled bedding should be removed. Your rabbit will also need some exercise, and of course he'll need some love and attention. And that part sounds more like fun than work.

Do rabbits eat carrots like my mom says?

Every now and then you can give your rabbit a carrot. They also like sweet potatoes, turnips, apples and cabbage. Give your rabbit these treats in moderation; too many fresh vegetables can make your animal sick. Pelleted food is best for bunnies because it contains all the vitamins, calories, fiber, minerals, fats and proteins that a rabbit needs.

Where should my rabbit stay?

Most rabbits do fine in either indoor or outdoor living environments. Any rabbit kept outside must be acclimated slowly to the changes in the weather. An outside rabbit should always have access to shade in the summer and protection from harsh weather all year long. In addition, fresh water and fresh food are musts for both indoor and outdoor rabbits. Traditionally rabbits have been kept in wood hutches but now metal cages are the first choice due to sanitary reasons. Wood can become saturated with urine and feces, while metal cages are easier to clean and keep clean.

My brother says rabbits don't do anything but make other rabbits. Do they have hobbies?

I doubt that you would find a rabbit on the soccer field or playing video games, but they do enjoy spending the day chewing, sleeping and eating. Your brother is right that rabbits have fairly short reproductive cycles, so be responsible if you have multiple rabbits.

Can a rabbit live inside like a cat or dog?

Rabbits are easily house-trained and do make wonderful indoor companions. If you choose to let your rabbit live indoors, a few things will make life easier for you, your rabbit and your family. You'll need to bunny-proof your home, much as you would do for a toddler. Rabbits love to chew on things, so make sure you secure any live electrical wires. If you have other pets, such as a dog or cat, you'll have to introduce them carefully and see how well they get along. You never want to leave your rabbit alone with other animals when you leave the house. Rabbits like to mark their territory and they tend to use the same corner of their cage or litter pan as a toilet area. You'll want to get two small litter pans; one to keep in the house and one for your cage or hutch.
